Product Owner

About the Role

We are looking for a motivated, talented and experienced Queenstown based Product Owner to join our team.

As a Product Owner, reporting to the CEO, you will be responsible for ensuring our product development programme meets the vision and strategic goals of the company.  Working closely with other functions, you will ensure our development activity anticipates and solves customer needs, taking a data-driven approach to understand where value can be or is being created. Fundamentally, you will be responsible for the development of the product roadmap, which clearly articulates priorities and anticipated value.

Key Responsibilities

  • Product Roadmap: Define and communicate the product roadmap to align with the company’s vision, mission, strategic goals and objectives. Continuously refine the product roadmap based on user feedback, market trends, data analytics and business priorities.
  • Requirements Gathering: Collaborate with stakeholders, including users, customers, and internal teams, to gather and document product requirements. Ensure that requirements are well-defined, clear, and aligned with the overall company strategy.
  • Backlog Management: Prioritise and manage the product backlog, ensuring that development teams have a clear understanding of the tasks and priorities. Continuously refine and prioritise backlog items based on feedback and changing priorities.
  • Sprint Planning and Execution: Work closely with development teams to plan and execute sprints. Ensure that development tasks are well-defined and that teams have the resources and support needed to complete their work.
  • Resource Management: Ensure resources are aligned with product roadmap objectives and timelines, identifying any roadblocks early on and escalating to the management team as appropriate.  Tracks progress of development activities to ensure scope and costs are on plan and manages variations.
  • User Experience: Advocate for a user-centric approach to product development. Ensure that the user experience is a top priority in all product decisions and that the platform is intuitive, user-friendly, and meets the needs of our users.  Ensures product development is appropriately tested and signed off before deployment into production by stakeholders.
  • Performance Monitoring: Monitor and analyse product performance, using data and metrics to inform decision-making. Identify areas for improvement and work with development teams to implement changes and enhancements.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Maintain open and effective communication with stakeholders, keeping them informed of product developments, progress, and changes. Manage expectations and ensure that stakeholder needs are addressed.  Present reports to the management team, directors and funding organisations as required.
  • Market Research: Stay informed about industry trends, competitive landscape, and emerging technologies. Use this knowledge to inform product decisions and identify opportunities for innovation and differentiation.

 

Qualifications

  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Product Owner, Product Manager, or similar role in a product-led environment working with developers and cross functionally. Experience understanding both B2B and B2C customer journeys in a service environment is preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Strong understanding of product and project management principles and practices.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively across functions.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Proficiency in using product management tools and software (e.g. Jira).
    • Understanding of Agile methodologies and experience working in Agile environments.
